The Illinois Springfield women's golf team claimed a share of first place in a rain-shortened Flyers Spring Invitational at Bolingbrook Golf Club. The tournament was reduced to 27 holes after Tuesday morning's final nine were canceled due to persistent rain. UIS completed all 27 holes on Monday, while some teams finished their first 27 holes Tuesday morning.
Elaine Grant claimed the individual title with a 27-hole total of 110 strokes, opening with a 76 in round one and following with a 34 through nine holes of round two. Her composed play left her four strokes clear of the field and highlighted her dominance in challenging conditions.
Contributing to the team's fourth-place finish, Lia Rody posted 80 in the first round and 40 through nine holes, tying for 15th at 120. Valentina Torrealba opened with 78 and was 42 through nine holes, also tying for 15th at 120. Erin Ahmadfadzir carded 85 in the first round and 41 through nine holes, finishing tied for 34th at 126. Yi-Ting Hsieh rounded out the lineup with 91 in round one and 43 through nine holes, finishing 48th at 134.
Maryville captured the team title at +26, followed by Lewis at +30 and McKendree at +41. Illinois Springfield's +44 placed them ahead of Davenport (+51), UW-Parkside (+62), Quincy (+66), Drury (+72), and several other programs in a competitive NCAA Division II field.
"Elaine securing another win with a composed back nine was impressive to watch," said head coach Josh Edison. "When she settles in, she can compete with anyone in any field. It was also encouraging to see Lia respond after an uncharacteristic start to the spring, and Erin delivering a career-best finish reflects the progress she's been making. Finishing fourth against a strong field took a complete team effort and is a step in the right direction as we move into the final stretch of the season. There is clear momentum with this group, and we're building on it."
