The University of Illinois Springfield women's golf team opened the 2018-19 season at the UINDY Fall Invitational. The tournament will be one of the toughest regular season fields of the year, and the Prairie Stars finished 13th out of 15 teams.

The tournament included eight nationally-ranked teams and two more receiving votes in the poll. Top-ranked Indianapolis won the tournament by shooting an even par 864. UIS finished with a three-round score of 961.

The Prairie Stars started out slow by shooting a 330 in round one, but moved up in the standings after a 309 in the second round. UIS ended the tournament on Tuesday with a team score of 322. The Prairie Stars were especially good on the par-three holes throughout the event, finishing 11th among the field with a 3.30 average.

Maria Espinosa led the team at the tournament with a three-round score of 233. Her top highlights came in round two when she was one-under for the round. She had four birdies and three bogeys as she shot a 71.

Ocean Pangan finished one shot behind Espinosa as she led the team in rounds one and three. She scored under 80 in both of those rounds with a 77 and a 76, respectively. She had 15 par holes in her first round, and collected two birdies in the final round.

Jennifer Queller was third on the team with a score of 242, including a top round of 77 during the team's second round. Sasah Glickfield shot a 252, and
Paula Valdivia had a 267 for the tournament.

UIS will be in action again at its home meet on Sept. 29-30 at the Panther Creek Country Club.
