University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) women's cross country freshman Taryn Christy claimed the school 6K record with a time of 22 minute, 39.9 seconds during Saturday's Festival Year Fiasco.
 
The Geneva native captured fifth place.
 
UIS compiled a team score of 138 points to finish sixth in the team standings.

"Good teams struggle sometimes," UIS head coach Scott Slade said. "We did not have a good day. The true test is how people respond to setbacks. We have not lost sight of who we are or what we are capable of doing.​"
 
Gloria Esarco secured 29th (24:36.6) and posted the fourth-fastest time in UIS history by a sophomore. The Walworth, Wis. Native blasted her personal record by 51.8 seconds.
 
Alexa Thomsen locked up 31st (24:42.6).
 
Savannah Brannan earned 34th (24:46.4) and put together the fifth-fastest time in program history by a UIS sophomore.
 
Libby Price finished 41st (25:23.8) and recorded the ninth-fastest time by a UIS sophomore.
 
The University of Indianapolis topped the team standings with 41 points. California State Polytechnic University Ponoma came in second with 55 points, finishing ahead of Lewis University (84), the University of Southern Indiana (89), Bellarmine University (120), UIS (138) and Lindenwood University (146), which rounds out the team standings.
 
Bellarmine's Karly Gawarecki captured first with a time of 22:05.1. Indianapolis's Mickayla Wenzel closed out in second with a time of 22:12.1.
 
"We had some very solid individual performances, but overall, it was not our best day on the course," UIS assistant coach Tyler Pence commented. "It was a good learning experience and wake-up call as we head into championship season. We've got two weeks to get ready for when it matters."
 
The Prairie Stars return to action in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Championships on Nov. 3 at 10:30 a.m. CT in Louisville, Ky.
