Prairie Stars Encounter Saints/Tritons

SPRINGFIELD, IL – The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) women's soccer team makes the road trip to St. Louis, MO for two Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matches this weekend.

SETTING THE SCENE
UIS (5-1-2, 2-1-1) faces off with Maryville University (3-2-1, 2-1-1) on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and the University of Missouri St. Louis (UMSL) (2-3-1, 1-3) on Sunday at 12 p.m.

WHAT'S HAPPENING LATELY
The Prairie Stars put together a 3-0 win over Drury University (3-3-1, 1-3) last Friday. Taylor Mraz put UIS on the board and Karisa Rogers added two goals. UIS secured a 2-0 victory over Missouri S&T (0-6, 0-4) last Sunday. Madisyn Coudriet broke the scoreless tie in the 83rd minute and Meghan Delaney added an insurance goal two minutes later. Paloma Guijarro was named defender of the week after compiling shutouts in both matches.

Maryville pulled past the University of Wisconsin-Parkside (1-6, 0-4) with a 1-0 victory last Friday with the help of a goal from Catie Huesgen in the 75th minute. Lewis University (3-3, 2-2) cruised to a 4-1 win over the Saints last Sunday.

UMSL took a 1-0 loss to the University of Indianapolis (4-2, 3-1) last Friday. The Tritons built an early 2-0 lead before sealing a 2-1 win over Wisconsin-Parkside last Sunday.

STARS OF NOTE
Rogers is tied for first in the GLVC with four goals. Mraz and Kaylan Mills make up parts of a third-place tie among conference leaders with three assists each. Emily Matsen has contributed three goals, including two game-winning goals while Delaney has scored eight points off three goals and two assists.

A LOOK AT THE OPPONENTS
Maryville earned a 1-0 win over UIS last season. The Saints and the Prairie Stars make up parts of a fifth-place tie in the conference standings. Maryville managed to put together a 1-1 tie on Sept. 8 with Bellarmine University (2-1-2, 1-1-2), which was ranked No. 7 in the United Soccer Coaches (USC) NCAA Division II poll at the time.

Allison Verville is tied for first in the conference with four assists. Catie Huesgen and Alex Johnson have netted two goals apiece this season.
UMSL, which captured a 2-1 victory over the UIS last season, is currently tied for 12th in the GLVC standings. McKenzie DeRouen ranks third in the conference with an .882 save percentage. Lexi Norton leads the Tritons with two goals on the season.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Prairie Stars host two conference opponents next weekend. UIS battles McKendree University (5-0, 3-0), ranked No. 24 in the latest USC NCAA Division II poll, on Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m. and face off with the University of Southern Indiana (3-2-1, 1-1-1) on Oct. 1 at 2:30 p.m.

UIS DIVISION II RECORD BOOK
Rogers ranks third in career goals (9), fifth in career points (17) and is tied for fourth in career game-winning goals (2). The junior forward from St. Charles, MO is tied for sixth among single-season leaders in goals (4) and is tied for eighth in single-season points (8).

Among career leaders, Matsen is tied for first in game-winning goals, tied for fourth in goals (7) and ranks sixth in points (16).

Mills and Mraz make up parts of a third-place tie among single-season leaders with three assists. Mraz is also tied for fourth with six career assists.
Delaney cracked the single-season points leaders by making the move into an eighth-place tie with eight points.
