The UIS women's soccer team tied Maryville 0-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Prairie Stars finished with an 11-6 advantage in shots in the conference draw.
UIS opened the first half with two shots on goal from
Autumn Diduch in the first seven minutes, both saved by Maryville goalkeeper Agnes Vilen, and added a corner kick during the early push. The Prairie Stars later hit the woodwork in the 26th minute and earned back-to-back corners, but the half was scoreless for both sides.
The Prairie Stars opened the second half with an extended attacking stretch, taking six shots from 48:50 to 59:31 and adding corner kicks at 59:46 and 61:09.
Mallory Herber had two shots saved during that span, and
Gigi Yurevich answered Maryville pressure with saves at 66:18 and 72:01. The Stars added two shots and another corner in the 80th minute, and the match finished 0-0.
Yurevich played all 90 minutes in goal, made three saves and recorded a shutout. It was the third shutout of the season for Yurevich and the Prairie Stars. Herber led UIS with three shots and put two on goal. Diduch added two shots, both on frame.
"We're proud of the team's effort today and the way we found a way to earn points on the road," said head coach
Scott Myers. "Our goal was to be difficult on defense and move the ball, and I felt we did a good job of accomplishing both. Some great defending high up the field allowed us to maintain good possession in the midfield, and I'm really proud of how hard our midfield worked today. It was great for Gigi to earn the shutout and for our team to continue to improve. Now, we get back home to rest, recover and celebrate the remainder of Homecoming on campus!"
The Prairie Stars visit Lewis on Wednesday, Oct. 14, before returning home to face Southwest Baptist on Saturday, Oct. 17.
