CARMEL, IN --- The Illinois Springfield women's golf team took 11
th place at the UIndy Fall Invitational as they kicked off the 2017-18 season. Held at Prairie View Golf Club, the Prairie Stars stood in 11
th place after the first day off play and missed the top-ten by one stroke after shooting five strokes better on the final day.
An opening day score of 320 put the Prairie Stars five strokes ahead of Lindenwood University and 13 clear of Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent Lewis. The Prairie Stars fired a final day score of 315, for a two-day total of 635, one shot shy of the top-ten. The University of Indianapolis won the tournament with a two-day score of 588 (+12), nine strokes ahead of Missouri-St. Louis.
Jennifer Queller paced the Prairie Stars with 75 in the opening round and followed with a 77, finishing her first collegiate tournament T-18.
Brooke Hill finished T-53 after following an opening round 80 with an 81.
Ocean Pangan took 56
th place after shaving ten strokes off her first day score, firing a second round 76.
Maria Espinosa and
Taryn Pittman each finished T-58 as Espinosa went 83-81 and Pittman fired a pair of 82's.
Queller finished T-19 in the field in par-three scoring, playing them at a mere one-over for the tournament. She was even better on the par-fives, playing the longest holes on the course at even-par over the two-days. With 25 pars, Queller ranked T-9 in the field in that category.
The Prairie Stars are off until the Dan Salisbury Memorial Collegiate, which will be held at Panther Creek on September 30
th and October 1
st.
