CANTON, OH ---Â The Prairie Stars concluded their 2016-17 season with a T-5 finish in the 12-team NCAA Midwest Super Regional. Illinois Springfield shot a final round score of 318, which followed rounds of 327 and 314 for a 959 total, their second lowest 54-hole total in program history.Â
Jocelyn Matsen concluded her UIS career with a final round 80, ending the tournament T-27 after firing a 79 and 78 in the previous two rounds for a total of 237.
Maria Espinosa tied her teammate, shooting the same three score in a different order, firing an 80 followed by a 79 and 78 to also finish T-27.
Taryn Pittman finished T-40 with a final round 79 after an 86 and 80 in the first two rounds.Â
Sara Posada finished T-43 finishing the tournament with her best round, an 81, following rounds of 82 and 84.
Brooke Hill rounded out the UIS scoring with a 49th place finish, sandwiching a low-round of 77 with a 91 and 85.Â
Espinosa was fourth in the field in par-three scoring, playing those holes at even par while Posada was just one-over par on the week and Matsen two-over.Â
This was the second straight year UIS reached the Super-Regional, while last year they finished tenth with a score of 992, this year they jumped to a fifth place finish with a total score of 959.Â
