WATERLOO, IL --- The Prairie Stars finished third at the GLVC Championships held at Annbriar in Waterloo, Illinois. Illinois Springfield was led by
Maria Espinosa and
Sara Posada who each finished T-14 in the 70-player field. All five Prairie Stars finished in the top-25 as they finished in third place, beating out Lewis by 11 strokes.
In the rain shortened championship, which was cut down from three rounds to just two, Espinosa shot a pair of 78's for a 156 total en route to her T-14 finish. Posada came out and carded an opening round 77 before closing the championship with a 79 on the final day to tie her team mate.
Jocelyn Matsen, the Prairie Stars top golfer, shot an opening round 76 and ended the championship with an 81 to take T-18 in the tournament.
Brooke Hill and
Taryn Pittman each broke into the top-25 with a T-21 and T-24 finish, respectively. Hill fired a 79 and 80 while Pittman also broke 80 in her first round with a 79 before coming back with an 83 in the final round.
UIS shot a 310 on the first day, putting themselves five strokes clear of the next best team and then closed out the tournament with a team score of 318 for a two-day total of 628. The University of Indianapolis ran away with the tournament, shooting a pair of 292's, beating UMSL by nine strokes.
UIS further solidified their spot in the NCAA Super Regional with the third place finish and will compete in the tournament for the second consecutive year. The Super Regional will be held from May 8-10 at Glenmoor Golf Club in Canton, Ohio. Â
