BELLEVILLE, IL --- The Prairie Stars women's tennis team concluded a historic season, falling to the top-seeded Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis in their first ever trip to the GLVC Tournament. Illinois Springfield fell 5-0 as the final four matches remained unfinished after the clinching match.
Taking on the sixth ranked team in the Midwest Region, UIS fell in three tough doubles matches.
Jane Carter and
Sharon Danquah fell 8-5 while
Kaitlyn Thornhill and
Kena Bere took an 8-4 loss.
Maegan Flight and
Danielle Mendoza fell 8-1 in the third spot.
Only two singles matches finished before the match was clinched by UMSL, as Thornhill fell 6-2, 6-0 in the third spot and Mendoza fell in straight sets in the fifth spot. Carter, though unable to finish, fell 7-6 (7-2) in the first set and looked to be in for a battle in the number one spot.
UIS finished the season with a 9-10 record and made their first appearance in the GLVC Tournament in the first season under the direction of
Samantha Schall.
