DAYTONA, FL --- The Prairie Stars took third place at the Bash at the Beach held in Daytona, Florida at the LPGA International-Jones Course this weekend. Illinois Springfield was paced by
Jocelyn Matsen, who placed sixth in the tournament.
In the five-team field, UIS took third with a total score of 639, firing at 323 on the first day and 316 on day two. Matsen led UIS with a pair of 76's for a 152 total.
Brooke Hill also cracked the top-10 with a 157, carding an opening round 80 before closing with a 77.
Maria Espinosa took 12
th in the event with an 82-81-163 while
Sara Posada and
Taryn Pittman took 17
th and 18
th, respectively, with a 167 and 168. Posada went 85-82 while Pittman turned in scores of 85-83.
Hill led the entire field in par-three scoring on the tournament, playing the three's at two-under. Matsen finished sixth in par-four scoring at three-over and tied for first in par-five scoring, playing them at one-under. Matsen also led the field in total birdies, recording five on the weekend while Espinosa was T-6 in total pars, with 23.
The Prairie Stars will compete next at the Indiana State Spring Invite on April 9-10 at the Country Club of Terre Haute.
