UIS Reaches GLVC Tournament for First Time in Program History

SPRINGFIELD, IL --- The Prairie Stars will continue their season at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament after qualifying for the post-season for the first time in program history. Illinois Springfield clinched the fourth seed in the east after Southern Indiana lost, putting UIS into post-season play.

The Prairie Stars concluded the regular season with a 9-9 record and 3-3 mark in the GLVC east. The conference standings are only based off of your record against teams in your division, and the deciding factor was a 5-4 victory over Southern Indiana, who UIS beat out by one game.

UIS ended the regular season with a 7-2 defeat to Bellarmine as the Knights took all three doubles matches before
UIS took two of the six singles matches.

In singles, Jane Carter held the top spot with a three-set come from behind victory, winning 4-6, 7-6, 10-5. Maegan Flight bookended that victory with a three-set win of her own, winning 3-6, 7-5, 10-6 in the sixth slot.

Carter improved to 14-7 on the season and 12-5 in dual matches, all at the number one spot. Flight, improved to 12-5 on the season and has now won four straight singles matches.

The GLVC tournament will begin on Friday, April 21st as UIS will take on the top seed from the east division, Rockhurst. UIS fell to the Hawks on the road earlier this season by a score of 7-2.
