SPRINGFIELD, IL --- The Prairie Stars closed the home portion of their schedule with a dominate 8-1 win over NAIA opponent Missouri Baptist. On a picture perfect day at Washington Park, the Prairie Stars took all six singles matches en route to an 8-1 victory over the Spartans.
Danielle Mendoza, the lone senior on the team, picked up two wins on the day in her last home match.
In doubles, Mendoza and partner
Maegan Flight took their doubles match 8-2 while
Kena Bere and
Kaitlyn Thornhill won 8-4. UIS dropped their only match of the day in number one doubles.
In singles play, UIS dominated the match, only giving up three games one time in the 12 sets.
Jane Carter paced the way, closing her match 6-1, 6-0 in the top spot while
Sharon Danquah won 6-2, 6-1 in the second slot. Thornhill kept pace with the top two, taking her match 6-1, 6-2 while Bere picked up her second win of the day with a 6-1, 6-0 win.
Flight and Mendoza kept their winning days going as Flight took her opponent down 6-0, 6-1 and Mendoza 6-3, 6-2.
The women's team improved their record to 9-8 on the season and have now won three of their last five matches.
The Prairie Stars will hit the road for their final match of the regular season to face Bellarmine on April 14
th in the final GLVC match of the season.
