TERRE HAUTE, IN --- The Illinois Springfield women's golf team competed at the Indiana State Spring Invitational, taking 9
th place in the 12 team event. This field was comprised of 10 NCAA Division I teams as well as one NAIA school.
Illinois Springfield shot a 336 on day one but followed with a 311 on the second day for a 647 total, finishing four strokes ahead of Eastern Illinois. The Prairie Stars bested Eastern, Indiana State (B), and Dayton, beating a Division I team from the Missouri Valley and Ohio Valley Conferences.
UIS was led by
Sara Posada, who fired an opening round 82 and followed with a 77 for a 159 total. This put her in a tie for 23
rd, the second best finish of the freshman's career. The 159 two-day total was the best overall score Posada has posted as a Prairie Star.
Jocelyn Matsen finished T-29, posting an 85 in the first round before closing with a UIS-best 76 in the final round.
Maria Espinosa finished T-40, carding an 87-77 for a 164 total.
Taryn Pittman also cracked the top-50 with a T-49 finish, tying Posada for the low round on Sunday with an 82 before firing an 84 on the final day.
Brooke Hill closed the scoring for UIS with an 87-81 for a 168 total and 57
th place finish.
Indiana State (A) won the event with a team score of 610. William Woods, the lone NAIA school in the event, shot a 624 and finished fourth.
UIS will return to Springfield to host the UIS Spring Invite at Panther Creek on April 22-23. This will be the final event before the GLVC Championships held at Annbriar on April 29-30.
