Poor Shooting Haunts Prairie Stars on the Road

ROLLA, MO --- The Prairie Stars (8-14, 2-12) fell on the road to Missouri S&T (9-13, 4-10) by a score of 59-49. UIS had their worst shooting night of the year, shooting just 24.6 percent from the field in the loss. Destiny Ramsey and Syerra Cunningham both had big games for Illinois Springfield as Ramsey put in 12 points and nine rebounds while Cunningham notched her 12th double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

The Prairie Stars fell behind 21-13 after the first quarter and could never quite get back into it. UIS got within a point on multiple occasions in the first quarter but Missouri S&T ended the quarter on a 11-2 run to take an eight point lead into the second.

UIS won the second quarter 14-13 but went into the half trailing by seven.

The Prairie Stars cut the deficit to five on two occasion in the third quarter but again couldn't cut into the Miner lead any more. UIS won the third 10-9 and went into the final quarter down six points.

Missouri S&T was able to keep UIS at bay in the final quarter, growing their lead to as much as 13 in the final frame.

Ramsey ended the night with 12 points on 4-of-11 shooting while grabbing nine rebounds, which ties her career high, which she accomplished against Maryville on Saturday. Cunningham totaled her 12th double-double on the season, which continues to lead to the GLVC with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Shelbi Patterson added nine points and two assists. Caroline Kelty added seven points and two assists on the night.

Illinois Springfield shot just 24.6 percent from the field --- their worst shooting night of the season --- couple with a 2-of-12 effort from deep.

However, the Prairie Stars did grab 21 offensive rebounds, their fourth highest output of the season and sixth time they have eclipsed 20 offensive boards.

UIS has dropped their last seven games and will now begin the toughest part of their schedule, facing three straight top-25 teams, all on the road: #13 Drury, #20 Southern Indiana, and #17 Bellarmine. Tip-off at Drury is scheduled for 1 PM on Saturday afternoon.
