SPRINGFIELD, IL --- The Prairie Stars (8-15, 2-13) faced their second ranked opponent of the season Saturday and fell to #13 Drury (22-3, 14-1) by a score of 80-62. Illinois Springfield was led by senior guard
Caroline Kelty, who scored a game-high 18 points in the loss.
Shelbi Patterson and
Syerra Cunningham also broke into double-figures, scoring 13 and 11, respectively.
Turnovers haunted UIS all game, as the Prairie Stars committed a season-high 25 in the game. Four players had at least three in the game which resulted in 27 points for the Panthers.
UIS got off to their hottest start in their last few games though, scoring 20 points in the opening quarter but trailed 26-20 at the break. A 10-point second put the Prairie Stars down 17 at the half.
Kelty's 18 points is a career-high for the senior, breaking her precious best of 17 which she accomplished on two occasions. Kelty was 6-of-10 from the floor and grabbed five rebounds and had one steal.
Cunningham came up just shy of her 13
th double-double of the year with 11 points and nine boards.
This was the first of three consecutive road games against ranked opponents for the Prairie Stars as they will hit the road again next weekend to face #20 Southern Indiana and #17 Bellarmine.
