Prairie Stars Topped by #24 Southern Indiana

EVANSVILLE, IN --- The Prairie Stars (8-16, 2-14) scored just 11-points in the opening quarter and could never recover, falling to #24 Southern Indiana 85-57 to open up their final road trip of the season. Freshman point guard, Tehya Fortune, was the lone Prairie Star to reach double-figures scoring ten points. Syerra Cunningham continued her season-long dominance on the boards, grabbing 13 rebounds on the game.

UIS shot just 31 percent in the opening half, putting themselves in a 33-23 hole at the half. Neither team got going offensively in the second quarter, as just two points were scored in the first five minutes.

A 31-13 third quarter broke open the game for the Screaming Eagles, as UIS scored 11, 12, and 13 points in each of the first three quarters, unable to get the offense going.

UIS put together a 21-point fourth quarter but it wasn't enough as they fell for the ninth consecutive time.

Cunningham, still the only player in the GLVC to average a double-double, scored eight points on 4-of-8 shooting and grabbed 13 rebounds. Lanie Hicks hit two three's off the bench for UIS while Katelyn Rosner went a perfect 4-for-4 from the field for eight points.

Cunningham, Hicks, Rosner, and Destiny Ramsey combined to go 13-of-20 while the rest of the team shot just 9-of-40.

UIS will continue their three-game stretch of road games against ranked opponents with their final road game of the season at #23 Bellarmine on Saturday for a 1 PM tip-off.
