Prairie Stars Fall in Final Road Game, 76-63

LOUISVILLE, KY --- The Prairie Stars (8-17, 2-15) fell in their final road game of the season, 76-63 to #23 Bellarmine. UIS scored 63 points, their highest total on their four-game road trip, but the Knights pulled away in the fourth quarter after UIS trailed by just five after three quarters.

Bellarmine jumped out to as much as a six-point lead in the first six minutes, but UIS used baskets from Caroline Kelty and Tehya Fortune to cut into that deficit. UIS tied the game at 16 and then tied the game in the final second of the quarter on a free throw from Shelbi Patterson.

UIS took their first lead since the opening minutes in the second quarter on a three-point play from Fortune, giving UIS a 20-19 lead. The Prairie Stars tied the game at 24 and again at 30 but could never regain the lead.

Kelty knocked down a three with 36 seconds left in the half to cut the Knights lead to 40-37.

In the fourth quarter, Katelyn Rosner made a layup with 9:09 remaining and cut the deficit to 58-53. From there, Bellarmine used a 14-2 run to break open the game, pushing the lead to 72-55 with 4:14 to play.

The Knights used the cushion to bleed the clock and play out the final minutes to a 13-point victory.

UIS was led by Fortune who had 15 points and four assists. Syerra Cunningham notched her 13th double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds --- five coming on the offensive side. Kelty also reached double-figures, scoring 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting.

The Prairie Stars shot 41 percent from the floor and 43.8 percent from three --- 7-of-16 --- both of which were their highest marks in the last five games.

UIS will close out the 2016-17 season on Thursday when they host McKendree for a 5:30 PM tip. This game will also serve as senior night as we will recognize the accomplishments of Cunningham and Kelty.
