MACOMB, IL --- The Prairie Stars (5-3) went up against an unfamiliar foe this past weekend as they traveled to Macomb, IL to take on Division I opponent Western Illinois University (6-7). The Leathernecks swept the Prairie Stars in their Sunday match 7-0.

In doubles competition, the Prairie Stars did not have a solution on how to stop the Leathernecks. WIU jumped out to an early lead as they won all three matches in the doubles competition.

In singles competition, UIS was battling back with the Leathernecks to try and take the lead.
Jane Carter won the first set against her opponent 6-4, before losing the next two sets 6-4 and 11-9. Sophomore
Sharon Danquah was very competitive in the second spot, she took her opponent into a tiebreaker but still fell short 7-6, 6-3. The Prairie Stars lost the rest of the singles competition in straight sets.

Illinois Springfield will be off for the next few weeks before their next match. UIS will be back on the court March 13
th when they travel to Lebanon, Tennessee to face Cumberland University (Tenn.).
