The Illinois Springfield women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Maryville on Friday afternoon at home.

UIS came up short in the race for the doubles point. At No. 1, Niamh Grogan and Ema Norma Bordean fell 6-2, while the No. 2 pair of Alisha Deogaonkar and Maria Garcia Gama also lost by a 6-2 score. The Prairie Stars picked up a win at No. 3, where Jane Carter and Cristina Mendoza Romero earned a 6-2 victory, but Maryville secured the doubles point with wins on the top two courts.

In singles action, UIS battled in several tight matches. At No. 1, Ema Norma Bordean pushed to three sets before falling 6-7, 6-2, 6-2. Cristina Mendoza Romero dropped a competitive 6-4, 6-4 match at No. 2. Alisha Deogaonkar fell 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3, while Niamh Grogan lost 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 4 spot. At No. 5, Jane Carter forced a first-set tiebreak but ultimately came up short 7-6, 6-1. Maria Garcia Gama rounded out the lineup at No. 6 with a closely contested 6-4, 7-5 loss.

The Prairie Stars will close out the regular season on Saturday, hosting UMSL at 1:00 p.m.
