Prairie Stars Return Home to Face UMSL/Maryville

SPRINGFIELD, IL --- The Prairie Stars (8-1, 2-9) look to snap a four-game skid as they welcome in the University of Missouri – St. Louis (9-10, 4-7) and Maryville (9-9, 5-6) this weekend. With seven games remaining in the regular season, these games will play a pivotal role in deciding who makes the 12-team GLVC tournament.

SETTING THE SCENE
Illinois Springfield currently sits in 7th place in the GLVC east division with seven games remaining in the regular season schedule. In the last seven games, UIS will face three top-26 opponents --- (9) Drury, (15) Bellarmine, and (26) Southern Indiana --- all of which will be on the road.

UIS is 2-6 this season in true road games while holding a 4-5 record at TRAC and 2-0 on neutral courts.

Missouri – St. Louis (UMSL) fell twice on the road last week to Rockhurst and William Jewell. They come in to the weekend having dropped five of their last seven GLVC contests and sit 6th in the GLVC west division.

Maryville currently sits 3rd in the west with a record of 9-9, 5-6. Winners of three straight --- Quincy, William Jewell, and Rockhurst --- Maryville has topped their opponent in five of their last six games. They begin the conference weekend at McKendree before playing their final five games in St. Louis.

STARTING TO MIX IT UP
For the first 14-games of the season, head coach Mark Kost used the same five starters each game. Freshman center, Katelyn Rosner was the first to break into the lineup and now has three starts on the season. Jasmine Sangster --- another freshman --- also broke into the starting lineup last week with her first career start against (RV) Lewis University.

CLOSE CALLS
UIS has played nine games this season decided by 10 points or less. The Prairie Stars are 2-7 in those games. With that, UIS has not lost a game this season (7-0) when leading with two minutes to play.

DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Prairie Stars are 7-3 this season when holding opponents to 70 points or less and 6-1 when they have more steals than their opponent. On the flip side, UIS is 2-10 when they have less steals and 0-5 when opponents shoot 45 percent or better from the field.

BLOCK PARTY
Syerra Cunningham and Destiny Ramsey are each tied for fourth in the GLVC in blocks with 24 on the season. Katelyn Rosner, in limited time, has 18 blocks on the season, putting her 13th in the conference.

RECORD BOOK WATCH
Cunningham is now the UIS all-time leader in offensive rebounds (247), defensive rebounds (421), and total rebounds (668).

Shelbi Patterson and Cunningham each have 714 career points, ranking 5th all-time. Zabrina Harper (03-05) ranks 4th with 806 points. Caroline Kelty sits 13th all-time with 536 points.

Patterson is 2nd in career assists with 226 and is just the third player to eclipse 200 career assists.

THE LAST TIME…
The last time UIS and UMSL met, the Tritons defended their home court with a 61-53 win. UMSL has won three straight meetings and six of the last seven, dating back to 2010. UIS' lone win came on a 73-63 win in St. Louis on February 23, 2013.

UIS beat Maryville last year for the first time in the history of the program with a 59-57 win on the road. Maryville holds an 8-1 record all-time against the Prairie Stars. Cunningham led the way with 21 points and 15 rebounds in the win.

MISSOURI – ST. LOUIS NOTES

She also leads the squad with 21 three-pointers and is second with 36 assists (2.0 apg). In GLVC-only games, Szorenyi averages 15.5 points per game.
