FINDLAY, OH --- The Prairie Stars women's golf team placed third in the Findlay – Beall Fall Classic at Findlay Country Club behind a T-7 finish from
Maria Espinosa. The Prairie Stars took third in the 14-team field, which was filled with in-region teams, helping solidify their position for post-season play.
Espinosa fired an opening round 75 and followed that with a 74, and was the highest placing finisher outside of the University of Indianapolis and Missouri-St. Louis. Espinosa carded three birdies on the front nine on Sunday en route to a one-under front side. In the final round, Espinosa carded four total birdies, giving her seven on the weekend, tied for the second most in the field.
Brooke Hill finished T-18 with an opening round 77 and final round 78. Her second round included 12 pars after carding two birdies in the opening round.
Jennifer Queller --- who is coming off a win at the Dan Salisbury Memorial Invite --- finished T-20 with a 77 and 80. Queller totaled 13 pars in the opening round.
Ocean Pangan (81-79—160) finished T-31 and was followed by
Taryn Pittman (79-86—165) who finished T-48.
"The team played well the first day against some good competition," said head coach
Frank Marsaglia. "We were paired with two of the top-five teams in the nation on the last day and didn't have a great start, but the ladies held in there and played the last 12-15 holes really strong. I'm proud of how they didn't quit and responded."
Queller finished T-12 in the field in par-three scoring, playing them at one-over for the tournament. Espinosa was among the four best in the field in par-four scoring and top-five in par-five scoring.
