SPRINGFIELD, IL --- The University of Illinois Springfield women's golf team cruised to a 41-stroke victory at the Dan Salisbury Memorial Invitational, held at their home course of Panther Creek.
Jennifer Queller took medalist honors, posting a five-over total of 149 across the two-day event. She bested her teammate
Brooke Hill by two-strokes, who took second in the 34-player field.
Queller posted an opening round score of 74 and followed it up with a three-over 75 in the final round. The 75 was the best score in the field on the final day. Hill, who shot the tournament best overall score with an opening round 73, fired a 78 in the final round to take second place.
UIS led by 18 strokes after the first day, shooting a 306 team-score, and followed it up with a 310 --- which was 19 strokes clear of the next best team on day two.
Maria Espinosa (79-79—158) and
Ocean Pangan (80-78—158) each finished T-5, while
Taryn Pittman (85-82—167) rounded out the UIS team with a ninth place finish.
The Prairie Stars had six players compete as individuals and all placed in the top-22 in the field.
Sasha Glickfield (83-86—169) took 13
th, besting
Charlotte Ng (83-87—170) by one stroke, who finished T-14.
Chelsey Witkowiak (85-86—171) took T-16, just ahead of Casey Willenbord (88-84—172) and
Jordan Neyens (91-82—173) who placed 18
th and T-19, respectively. Amanda Greenen rounded out the Prairie Stars with a (91-85—176) 22
nd place finish.
Queller led the field in par-three scoring, playing the eight par-three's in two-under par, the only player to record an under par score across the par-three's. Hill led all players on the par-four's at a five-over mark while Glickfield and Queller each led the field in par-five scoring at even par.
This is the second straight year that UIS has won the Dan Salisbury Memorial Invite. The Prairie Stars will return to the course at the Findlay-Beall Fall Classic on October 8-9 in Findlay, Ohio at Findlay Country Club.
