SPRINGFIELD, IL --- Five Prairie Stars reached double-figures in an 82-53 win over Quincy University (4-11, 1-4). Illinois Springfield (7-5, 1-3) was led by
Destiny Ramsey's 18 points but it was
Jasmine Sangster's 17 points off the bench that sparked the rout for their first conference win.
Quincy scored the first point of the game but after a three from
Caroline Kelty two minutes into the game, UIS never trailed again. Tied at five, Kelty again put in a layup before a jumper from
Syerra Cunningham found the bottom of the net and helped a 6-0 UIS run.
The Prairie Stars held a 17-12 advantage after the first quarter assisted by seven points from Kelty.
Jasmine Sangster connected on all four of her three point attempts in the first half, as she totaled 13 points in the first 20 minutes of play. Those 13 points matched her career-best as UIS took a 34-18 lead into the half. The Prairie Stars ended the first half with a 10-0 run to break open the game, assisted by three three's in the final two minutes --- two from Sangster and one from
Tehya Fortune.
UIS built their lead up to as much as 32 in the fourth quarter as they handed the Hawks their fourth conference loss of the season and 11
th loss overall.
The Prairie Stars accumulated 25 assists in the win, their second most of the season and most against any Division II team. That effort was led by junior guard,
Shelbi Patterson, who had a season-high seven assists --- which was also the most for any UIS player this year.
Ramsey filled the stat sheet with a game-high 18 points, six rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and two steals. Cunningham notched her GLVC leading eighth double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Fortune added ten points on the night without committing a turnover and Kelty ended with 12 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
UIS will hit the road for the first time in the conference season next week, traveling to William Jewell on Thursday before ending the road trip at Rockhurst.
