SPRINGFIELD, IL --- The Prairie Stars (8-9, 2-7) got off to a slow start and couldn't recover, falling to the University of Indianapolis (13-6, 7-2) by a score of 71-53. Illinois Springfield scored just 20 first half points before dropping 21 in the third quarter alone.
Destiny Ramsey led the way for UIS, filling the stat sheet with 11 points, six rebounds, two assists, and five steals.
UIS had just four points at the first media of the game but trailed just 8-6 with 4:31 left in the opening quarter. Trailing just 12-10 with 2:47 to go, UIndy went on a quick 5-0 spurt to take a 17-10 and then in the final minute scored five unanswered to go up 22-12.
UIS managed just eight points in the second quarter and trailed 33-20 at the half.
The third quarter was a different story offensively, as UIS put up more points in the single quarter than they did in the opening half.
Tehya Fortune got things going with a layup on the first possession before
Shelbi Patterson connected with a three to cut the deficit to 35-25. UIndy jumped their lead back to 20 before
Caroline Kelty sank a three with 2:27 to go.
UIS finished the quarter on a 6-0 run, sparked by two free throws from Ramsey and finishing with back-to-back jumpers from Kelty.
UIS couldn't keep the momentum though as UIndy held off the Prairie Stars in the final quarter for the 71-53 victory.
Ten different Prairie Stars scored in the contest but only Ramsey and Kelty finished in double-figures.
Jasmine Sangster was 3-of-6 from the field and 2-of-4 from deep for eight points while
Lanie Hicks dumped in four points in 12 minutes of play, hitting 1-of-3 from deep.
UIS will look to bounce back from the weekend as they travel to Wisconsin-Parkside and Lewis on Thursday and Saturday.
