SOMERS, WI --- The Prairie Stars (8-10, 2-8) fell on the road to Wisconsin-Parkside (6-12, 4-6) by a score of 78-54, dropping their third straight contest. Illinois Springfield scored just eight points in the opening quarter and weren't able to recover.
Destiny Ramsey led UIS offensively with 11 points and was the lone Prairie Star to reach double figures.
The Rangers jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first four minutes of play before
Shelbi Patterson got the Prairie Stars on the board with a free throw at the 6:17 mark. UIS began the game 0-for-4 from the field with two turnovers before getting on the board with the free throw and a layup from Ramsey.
Syerra Cunningham came off the bench and scored four straight points for UIS to cut the deficit to 17-7 before the quarter ended 22-9.
Up 17-8, Parkside used a 18-0 run, spanning until the 5:46 mark in the second quarter to break the game open. Ramsey ended the run with a layup with the assist from
Airiana Smith. UIS ran off five straight points on a layup from
Michaela Jones and three-point play from Patterson and ended up going into the half down 43-22.
UIS shot just 22.6 percent from the field in the first half, which included an 0-for-9 mark from deep.
Parkside stretched their lead to as much as 34 in the fourth quarter before UIS ended the game on a 12-2 run over the course of the final 5:44. In that run, UIS connected on three three's, one from
Chasitee Shroyer and two from
Jasmine Sangster.
Shroyer ended the game 1-for-2 from deep and added two boards and three steals in 13 minutes. Sangster was 2-of-3 from deep while Smith recorded two steals in four minutes of play.
The 54 points is the second lowest scoring output of the season, behind only the 53 points against UIndy last Saturday.
UIS will travel to Romeoville, IL to try and end a three-game slide against Lewis University on Saturday for a 1:00 PM tip.
