ALLENDALE, MI --- The Prairie Stars finished in seventh place in the 19-team Gilda's Club Laker Fall Invite this past weekend, hosted by Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. In a tournament that included four GLVC schools and eight school from the 2016 NCAA Super Regional in Springfield last spring, the Prairie Stars finished easily in the top half, seven strokes clear of Northern Michigan, who finished eighth.

Kayla Yn led the way for UIS, finishing just outside the top-10 with a T-13 finish. Yn fired a 78 on the opening day before following that up with a 75 for a 153 total. Yn was T-13 in the field in par-four scoring for the weekend, playing the holes at +6. Though not a long hitter, Yn was T-4 of the 103 golfers in par-five scoring, playing the long holes at -1 over the two rounds. She was the only player in the field to record an eagle on the weekend, jarring her third shot on the par-five fourth hole.  

Jocelyn Matsen and Maria Espinosa each finished the tournament T-33, totaling 161 for the two days. Matsen opened with a 79 before ending the tournament with an 82 while Espinosa shaved five strokes the second day, turning an 83 into a 78.

Taryn Pittman was steady for both days, carding an 83 to open the tournament before closing with an 82 on the par-72 course. Pittman finished T-44 on the tournament. Brooke Hill rounded out the UIS team with a 82-930175 for a T-71 finish.

The field consisted of 103 players with the winning score coming from Katie Chipman of Grand Valley State, finishing the tournament three-under par.

UIS will return to Springfield next weekend for the Dan Salisbury Memorial Invitational, held at Panther Creek.
