CARMEL, IN --- The Illinois Springfield women's golf team opened up their fall season with a 12
th place finish at the UIndy Fall Invitational held at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana. The Prairie Stars placed 12
th in the 17 team field, led by
Kayla Yn's T-30 finish.
UIS fired a 319 team score on day one to put them in a tie for 12
th with Merrimack College. The Prairie Stars would go on to best Merrimack by six strokes on the second day, taking sole possession of 12
th place.
Yn, a sophomore from Arcadia, California, paced the UIS team with a 153 total over the two-day tournament. A 79 on the first day was fired by a team best 74 in the final round.
Jocelyn Matsen fired an 84 on the final day after an opening day 77 --- which was best for UIS on the first day.
Taryn Pittman carded an 84 on day one before shaving four strokes on the second day for a two-day total of 164.
Maria Espinosa and
Sasha Glickfield rounded out the UIS competitors with a 169 and 184, respectively.
Dallas Baptist won the tournament with a two-day total of 585, coming back from ten strokes back to beat UIndy. The Greyhounds were the only other GLVC competing in the tournament, and ended with a 587.
The Prairie Stars will head to Allendale, Michigan on September 24-25 for the Gilda's Club Lake Fall Invitational hosted by Grand Valley State.
