SPRINGFIELD, IL --- Kayla Yn paced the field at the UIS Invite and took home medalist honors by firing a 77-80-157 in the two day tournament. Yn won by three strokes, beating out three players from Southern Indiana. Five Prairie Stars finished in the top ten as the team finished second by three strokes.
Southern Indiana won the UIS Invite by three strokes over UIS, coming back from two behind to win it all. UIS shot a 327 on the opening day and came back with a 322 to finish with a 649 total. Maryville and St. Joseph's College rounded out the tournament more than 40 strokes back of UIS.
Yn led the field in par-four scoring on the tournament, playing the par-fours in just six-over par. She was one-over on the par threes and led the field with five total birdies.
Rebecca Ramirez finished in a tie for seventh, coming back with a 78 on day two after an 87 on the opening day.
Jocelyn Matsen,
Maria Espinosa, and
Taryn Pittman all finished in a tie for ninth to round out the UIS qualifying players. Matsen finished 84-83-167 while Espinosa and Pittman were much more contrasted.
Espinosa shot an 80 on the opening day then followed with an 87 while Pittman went 86-81.
Brooke Hill,
Carly Hudon, and
Sasha Glickfield all competed as individuals and finished in the top-16 of the field.
Jordan Neyens and
Chelsey Witkowiak rounded out the UIS field and finished 18
th and 21
st, respectively.
The Prairie Stars will now enter into the GLVC Championship, which will be held at Annbriar Golf Course in Waterloo, Illinois on April 22-24.
