ST. LOUIS, MO --- The Prairie Stars women's golf team took fifth place in the 14-team Triton Inviational this past weekend. The tournament was originally scheduled for two rounds but was cut short due to rain, and finished after just 18-holes. UIS finished fifth overall and third out of ten GLVC teams in competition.
The Prairie Stars fired a 330 total score, finishin at 46-over par as a team. This was seven strokes off of the next team in the standing and six strokes clear of sixth place, Maryville.
Rebecca Ramirez led the way individually for the Prairie Stars with a 9-over par 80 on the par-71 course. Ramirez notched a tie for eighth place and finished sixth among GLVC players.
Jocelyn Matsen and Maria Espinso each finished in a tie for 22
nd with a 12-over 83.
Kayla Yn,
Taryn Pittman, and
Sasha Glickfield all carded an 84, tying for 27
th place.
Charlotte Ng rounded out the Prairie Stars competitors with a 93, finishing in 69
th place.
Pittman was one of five players to finish the par-3's at even par, leading the field in par-three scoring. Ramirez finished the par-5's at one-under par, second in the field in that category. Yn totaled nine pars on the day, leading UIS in that statistic.
The Prairie Stars will continue their season next weekend as they host the UIS Invite at Piper Glen Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday. This will be the final tournament before the GLVC championships the following week at Annbriar.
