SEDONA, AZ --- The Prairie Stars shot a 320 on the second day of the Red Rocks Invitational and finished the tournament in eighth place.
Maria Espinosa led the way for UIS, finishing in a tie for 13
th after, missing the top ten by just two strokes.
After an opening round 317, the Prairie Stars dropped three strokes on the second day and totaled a 320. This dropped them from a tie for sixth down to eighth place although they missed out on a sixth place finish by just four strokes.
Espinosa improved on her opening round 77, and came back with a 76 on the second day, jumping from 15
th to 13
th in the tournament. Her +9 total missed the top ten by just two strokes and led the way for the young Prairie Stars team.
Senior Rebecca Ramirez improved by three strokes on the second day, cutting an 81 opening round down to 78 and finishing in a tie for 31
st.
Kayla Yn and
Charlotte Ng each fired an 83 on the second day, four and three strokes worse than their opening rounds, respectively.
Jocelyn Matsen rounded out the Prairie Stars with an 87 on the second day, finishing just inside the top-50.
South Dakota State won the tournament shooting 295-300 for a two-day total of 595, just 19 over par for the tournament.
The Prairie Stars will head back to the course on March 19
th and 20
th in Perry Park, Kentucky in a tournament hosted by Lewis University.
