SPRINGFIELD, IL --- Coming off a mid-week sweep of Blackburn College, the Prairie Stars (10-12) will turn their attention to GLVC opponents Maryville (14-3) and #7 UMSL (24-1). This is the second weekend of GLVC play as UIS began the season by splitting their last road trip at Quincy and Truman State.
SETTING THE SCENEUIS has won seven of their last nine games to improve their record to 10-12 on the season. In their first conference road trip this year, they swept Quincy before heading to Truman State where they fell twice. The Prairie Stars are coming off their greatest offensive day in the history of the program, scoring 33 runs in a doubleheader that also included the first perfect game in UIS history, thrown by
Jaycee Craver.
Maryville comes into the doubleheader winners of their last five games and 12 of their last 13. Their one loss came to Lewis University in the second game of their doubleheader by a score of 6-5. Maryville is much improved from last season, finishing with a record of 18-31.
UMSL has been virtually unstoppable this season, holding a record of 24-1 and shutting out their opponents in 15 of those games. Led by National Player of the Year candidate, Hannah Perryman, the Tritons have won 13 straight games. Last year, UIS split with UMSL, winning 1-0 in the back end of a doubleheader.
UP AND DOWN THE ORDERThe Prairie Stars have had a very balanced offense this season and this is proven by the fact that six players have at least ten RBI's on the season and 12 different players have driven in a least three runs. Five players have left the yard this season and six players are hitting over .270, led by
Brittany Miller with a .356 average and four homeruns.
Amanda Gosbeth is also over the .330 mark, and has three homeruns on the year and is one of five players with 10 runs batted in.
IN THE CIRCLEJaycee Craver continues her incredible freshman season each time she takes the rubber. She now boasts a 3.12 ERA and a 7-5 record, throwing nine complete games and two shutouts. In those two shutouts, she threw 16 innings, struck out 19 batters and allowed just four hits.
Alexandria Smith and
Rachel Goff split time in the circle as well, as they both finished off Blackburn in game two of the doubleheader. Smith has one shutout on the season and is holding opponents to a .276 average.

WHO'S ON DECKThe Prairie Stars will head on the road for six straight games, taking on Southern Indiana, Bellarmine, and McKendree. After this six game road trip, the Prairie Stars will play 16 of their final 20 games at home, 18 of which are in the GLVC.
