Prairie Stars Finish 1-3 at UAM – Quad State Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
BENTONVILLE, ARK --- The Prairie Stars (1-3) split on day two of the UAM – Quad State Classic before their final two games of the tournament were cancelled due to inclement weather. UIS won their first game on Saturday over Southwest Baptist 7-3 before falling in the night game 3-1 to Upper Iowa. Jacee Craver notched her first win of the year in the circle, throwing a complete game, allowing just three runs and striking out nine.

GAME ONE: UIS 7, SOUTHWEST BAPTIST 3
Following a 1-2-3 first inning, Southwest Baptist struck first in the bottom of the second, pushing one run across during a two-out rally.

The Prairie Stars got their first baserunner in the third but were unable to score and trailed 1-0 heading into the fourth inning. Madi Torry led off the inning with a walk before stealing second and scored via an error on the third baseman off the bat of Brittany Miller. Another Southwest Baptist error scored Trisha Faulkner, who was pinch running for Miller, and made the score 2-1 in favor of UIS.

Molly Manietta then came up with the biggest hit of the inning, a two-run double to left field, putting the Prairie Stars up two. Amanda Gosbeth ended the inning with a sacrifice fly, capping a five-run fourth inning for the Prairie Stars.

Craver came out and shut down Southwest Baptist the following inning, inducing three straight ground balls for a quick inning.

Two solo homeruns for Southwest Baptist in the bottom of the fifth made the score 5-3 but Craver settled down and struck out the final batter of the inning, not allowing any more runs. The Prairie Stars picked up the freshman pitcher and scored twice in the sixth on a two-RBI single by Haley Inman.

Craver struck out the side in the final inning to earn her first collegiate win, bringing her strike out total to nine on the game. Alexa McClaughry was 2-for-3 on the game while seven different Prairie Stars crossed the plate. Inman and Manietta each had two RBI each.

GAME TWO: UIS 1, UPPER IOWA 3
It didn't take long for all the scoring to happen in the second game as Upper Iowa crossed the plate three times in the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead. All with two outs, Upper Iowa strung two walks, a single, and a triple together to plate three runs.

In the third, McClaughry, batting in the two-hole, connected for the first Prairie Star homerun of the season, belting a solo-shot to left field and cutting into the deficit.

Unfortunately, UIS would only get one more baserunner to second base for the game, and fell 3-1 in what was their final game of the weekend.

The Prairie Stars will travel to Florida next weekend to play at Diamond 9 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Kissamee, Florida. They will play five games over the course of three days against North Georgia, Queens, Rollins, and Dominican College.
