Yn and Espinosa Share Medalist Honors as UIS Destroys the Field

SPRINGFIELD, IL --- The Prairie Stars put on a show for the ages this past weekend, as they bested the field by 37 strokes and set a program record for a 36-hole tournament by eight shots.  The Prairie Stars followed a 311 total --- which was the third best 18-hole score in program history --- with a 304, breaking the previous team record by five strokes.

Kayla Yn and Maria Espinosa finished the tournament tied for first with Alexa Rippy of Trevecca with a two-day total of 151. Yn followed an opening round 78 with a one-over 73 --- the best round of anybody in the entire tournament. Espinosa opened with a 75 before following that with a 76 to tie her teammate atop the leaderboard.

All five UIS players finished in the top-ten as Taryn Pittman stood alone in seventh place with a 158 total after firing rounds of 83 and 75. Jocelyn Matsen finished T-8 with a 79 and 80 while Brooke Hill rounded out the squad with a T-10 finish with scores of 79 and 81.

Yn led the field in par-four scoring at three over par while Matsen and Espinosa ranked T-3 in that same category. Pittman and Hill played the par-fives at even par for the weekend, while Yn and Espinosa carded them at one-over.

The Prairie Stars will travel to Annbriar Golf Club next weekend to compete in the Maryville Fall Invitational.
