UIS Travels to UINDY and Saint Joseph’s


SPRINGFIELD, IL --- The Prairie Stars are motivated to get on a winning streak this weekend as they travel to the University of Indianapolis (4-13, 1-6) on Thursday, as well as St. Joseph's College (12-5, 5-2) on Saturday. UIS won their first conference game last Saturday with a thrilling 63-52 win over William Jewell at home. With only 11 conference games remaining, the Prairie Stars are looking to move up in the ranks, currently seeded 8th in the GLVC East.

STARS TO WATCH OUT FOR
Senior forward Ashley McHenry (current star of the month) joins sophomore guard Shelbi Patterson as the two play­ers to average over ten points per game. Patterson herself leads the team in both points and assists, scoring 11.9 points per game and averaging 3.4 assists per game.
 
Syerra Cunningham aggressively leads her team with 7.9 rebounds per game.
 
Senior Meredith Marti continues to leave it all on the court leading her team in 3-pointers, making 33 so far this season.
 
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
 
Indianapolis:
The UIndy Greyhounds are 4-13 on the season and are coming off of a win-loss weekend to conference opponents Drury and Missouri S&T before losing to St. Joseph's (57-70). They are tied so far in winning atmospheres with 2 wins being at home and 2 being on the road.

St. Joseph's:
The Pumas are 12-5 on the season, being in the top half of the GLVC East. They are coming off of a rival win over UIndy (70-57). Prior to that, the Puma's had a win-loss weekend to Missouri S&T and Drury. The team is 8-3 at home and 2-2 on the road.

SERIES HISTORY
 
UIS is 0-5 all-time against UIndy and this will be the third time UIS travels there. In their first matchup in 2010, the Prairie Stats fell on the road, losing three more times at home afterwards. Last year when the two teams met, UIndy won with a score of 58-48. Only one player made it in the double-figures and Shelbi Patterson made five points on three shots.
 
UIS is 1-6 overall against St. Joseph's, previously winning on the road in 2011. Throughout the seven times the two teams have met, the Pumas won the first 3 games and last 3, with the Prairie Stars winning in between.

The Prairie Stars have an upcoming home weekend playing opponents Lewis University on the 28th as well as UW-Parkside on the 30th. Game times are set for 5:30 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.
