QUINCY, IL - Freshman
Kayla Yn (Arcadia, Calif.) earned medalist honors at the Quincy Fall Classic and the University of Illinois Springfield women's golf team placed first with a team score of 643. It is the team's second win of the season and Yn's first as a Prairie Star.
The Prairie Stars ran away with the classic, outpacing the rest of the field by 53 strokes. Quincy finished in second place with a score of 696. UIS' team score of 643 is tied for third in the UIS record book for the lowest 36-hole score in the program's history.
Yn followed up on her day-one score of 77 with a 79 to finish with a 156. Senior
Becca Ramirez (Springfield, Ill.) finished three strokes back of Yn after also firing a second-round 79. She placed second. Junior
Jocelyn Matsen (Springfield, Ill.) carded the best score of the day with a 78 to finish third.
All seven Prairie Stars at the Classic finished in the top ten. Sophomore
Taryn Pittman (Aledo, Texas) and freshman
Maria Espinosa (Ibague, Colombia) finishd in fourth and seventh, respectively.
Freshmen
Charlotte Ng (Hong Kong) and
Sasha Glickfield (Marion, Ind.) competed as individuals and shot rounds of 86 and 90, respectively.
The Prairie Stars return to Springfield for their fall tournament this coming weekend.
