Ramirez Leads Prairie Stars at GLVC Championship

WATERLOO, Ill. - Junior Becca Ramirez (Springfield, Ill.) is tied for fourth place at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship to lead the University of Illinois Springfield women's golf team on Friday at the Anbriar Golf Course.

Ramirez is tied for fourth after the first 18 holes with a three-over par 75. She is the only Prairie Star in the top-20 after one round of play. Sophomore Jocelyn Matsen (Springfield, Ill.) is tied for 30th place, seven strokes back of Ramirez, with a score of 82.

The Prairie Stars are currently in fifth place at the championship with a score of 323, three strokes back of fourth-place Drury. William Jewell and Lewis trail the Prairie Stars by two and three strokes, respectively.

Senior Liz Kesinger (Carrollton, Ill.) and freshman Brooke Hill (Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada) posted identical scores of 83 to put them both in a tie for 35th place. Freshman Carly Hudon (St. Charles, Ill.) fired an 86 to round out the Prairie Stars efforts on Friday.

The second round of the GLVC Championship begins on Saturday at 8 a.m. CDT.
