SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Division I Western Illinois was too much for the University of Illinois Springfield women's tennis team as the Leathernecks picked up a 6-1 victory on Wednesday evening at Washington Park. The match was scored using Division I rules where doubles counted as one point.
Freshman
Jane Carter and sophomore
Danielle Mendoza battled in the No. 1 doubles spot, but eventually dropped an 8-5 decision to Western. UIS automatically got a win in the No. 3 position due to the visitors not having enough players, but it was not enough as Western took the doubles point with an 8-0 victory in the No. 2 position.
In singles action, Carter competed against Courtney Lubbers in the No. 1 spot, but Lubbers took the 6-3, 6-3, win. In the other singles matches, UIS was able to get at least one set in all, but one line. The Prairie Stars took their one point by default in the No. 6 singles spot.
Illinois Springfield returns to conference action on Friday against Lewis. The match has been moved indoors to Plainfield, Ill. and is set to begin at 3 p.m.
