MARYLAND HTS., Mo. -Â Sophomore
Jocelyn Matsen (Springfield, Ill.) carded a 76 on Monday to lead the University of Illinois Springfield women's golf team to a fourth place finish at the Maryville Invitational at the Quarry Golf Course.
The Prairie Stars maintained their fourth place spot from the first round. The team shot a 333 on Monday, 12 strokes better than its first round score, to finish with a 678 for the tournament. Southern Indiana claimed the team title with a score of 635.
Matsen entered the final round of action in a tie for fourth place after shooting a 79 on Sunday. She picked up three strokes in the final round to tie for third place with a two-day score of 155 (79-76).
Junior
Becca Ramirez (Springfield, Ill.) finished in the top 20 at the invitational. After posting a 90 in day one, Ramirez improved by seven strokes in the final round to finish with a score of 173 (90-87). Freshman
Carly Hudon (St. Charles, Ill.) placed just two spots back of Ramirez with a score of 175.Â
Senior
Liz Kesinger (Carrollton, Ill.) and freshman
Brooke Hill (Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada) rounded out the UIS team efforts with two-day scores of 177 and 181, respectively.
Three Prairie Stars competed as individuals at the tournament led by freshman
Jordan Neyens (Pleasant Hills, Iowa) with a two-round score of 179.
UIS is back in action in two weeks time for the Bash at the Beach in Daytona Beach, Fla.
