ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The University of Illinois Springfield women's tennis team avenged an earlier season loss with a 5-4 win at Missouri Baptist on Friday afternoon.
The Prairie Stars took a 2-0 lead after winning the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions. Freshman
Jane Carter (Auckland, New Zealand) and
Danielle Mendoza (Waukegan, Ill.) won 8-1 in the top spot, while junior
Faith Hook (Effingham, Ill.) and senior
Janasha Prabhu (Springfield, Ill.) defeated their counterparts, 8-5.
Carter then went into her singles match in the No. 1 position and defeated Nika Jurcic, 6-1, 6-0. In the No. 2 position, Hook grabbed a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Kat Randolph. Mendoza then wrapped up the wins with a win in the No. 3 spot, 6-1, 6-1.
The victory is the first of the season for the Stars and first-year coach
Tom Rees who added Carter in the off season.
UIS heads to Truman on Saturday, Feb. 28 for its next match.
