Becca Ramirez (Springfield, Ill.) and freshman
Kayla Yn (Arcadia, Calif.) fired 78s on Sunday to help the University of Illinois Springfield women's golf team come back to tie for second place at the Dan Salisbury Memorial Collegiate Invitational at the Panther Creek Country Club.
The Prairie Stars came into the day in eighth place after shooting a 331 on Saturday. UIS shot a 317 in the final round, the second-best round of the day out of the 15 teams at the tournament. Grand Valley State won the tournament title with a final score of 614, 34 strokes better than the three teams tied for second.
Ramirez and Yn fired the best rounds of the day for the Prairie Stars, shooting 78s to lead the team. Ramirez tied for tenth place in the field of 89 golfers with a score of 160. Yn finished in a tie for 26th place with a 165. Fellow freshman
Maria Espinosa (Ibague, Colombia) also tied for 26th place with a 165 after shooting an 80 on Sunday.
Junior
Jocelyn Matsen (Springfield, Ill.) was consistent over the weekend, carding an 80 on Saturday and then shooting an 81 in the final round on Sunday. She tied for 15th place.
Sophomore
Taryn Pittman (Aledo, Texas) rounded out the Prairie Stars' team efforts on Sunday with an 84. She shot an 84 on Saturday to finish with a 168.
Freshman Charlottle Ng (Hong Kong) fired the best round of the day out of the individuals in the field with an 81. She led the UIS individuals at the Invitational with a 169.
