SPRINGFIELD, IL - Junior
Jocelyn Matsen (Springfield, Ill.) carded an 80 and the University of Illinois Springfield women's golf team is in eighth place after the first round of the Dan Salisbury Memorial Collegiate Invitational at the Panther Creek Country Club on Saturday.
The Prairie Stars shot a 331 on Saturday and sit right in the middle of the 15-team field in eighth place. Grand Valley State is in first place after day one and holds a 16-stroke lead over second place California-PA. It was a tough day for the players as the average round was an 86.51
Jocelyn Matsen is in a tie for 13th place after shooting an 80 out of 89 golfers at the Invite. She is eight strokes off the lead and just one shot out of the top ten. Senior
Becca Ramirez (Springfield, Ill.) fired an 82 to put herself in a tie for 23rd place. Sophomore
Taryn Pittman (Aledo, Texas) is two stroke behind Ramirez after shooting an 85.
Freshmen Maria Espinsosa (Ibague, Colombia) and
Kayla Yn (Arcadia, Calif.) rounded out the UIS team efforts with scores of 85 and 87, respectively.
Six Prairie Stars competed as individuals led by freshman
Charlotte Ng (Hong Kong) with a score of 88.
UIS wraps up play at the fall invitational tomorrow with an 8 a.m. tee-off.
