SPRINGFIELD, IL - The University of Illinois Springfield volleyball team grabbed a 3-2 victory against Bellarmine for the first time in program history on Friday evening at TRAC.

RECORDS: UIS 4-10, 2-3 GLVC; Bellarmine 6-9, 1-4 GLVC

UIS TOP PERFORMERS - Junior Nora Palermo (West Chicago, Ill.) recorded a team-best 11 kills and hit .321 for the match, while narrowly missing a double-double with nine digs.
- Classmate Ashley Beaton (Wildwood, Mo.) recorded eight kills and had three aces to go along with three digs.
- Senior Nikki Madoch (Algonquin, Ill.) put down some key kills and recorded seven for the match along with two aces, and four block assists.
- On the block, Emma Burkle (Crystal Lake, Ill.) recorded six helpers and Alyssa Hasler (South Bend, Ind.) put down five and one block solo.
COACH'S CORNER
HOW IT HAPPENED- UIS raced out to a two set lead after dominating in sets one and two, 25-13 and 25-16, respectively. The Knights hit in negative numbers in both stanzas as they headed in the locker room.
- The Prairie Stars hit .429 in set one thanks to 11 kills on 21 attempts with just two errors.
- Set three is where the momentum went to the visiting team. Bellarmine hit .295, scoring 20 points on kills.
- In set four, UIS miscues gave Bellarmine the chance to take the match, but the home team buckled down as it went to the deciding set.
- UIS took an early 5-1 lead, but the visitors were not done yet and eventually tied the frame at 10-all.
- A Stars' kill, an ace and a Knights error put the favor back in the home team's court. Hasler and Burkle put back an attack before another Bellarmine error secure the five-set match for UIS.
FOR THE OPPONENTS- Bellarmine hit .101 for the match and recorded 13 service errors and 11 reception errors.
- Ashley Jefferson provided a spark off the bench with 14 total kills
- Senior setter Allie Muha had a double-double with 32 assists and 11 digs, while also knocking down six kills.
