WATERLOO, IL -Â Senior
Becca Ramirez (Springfield, Ill.) fired a 78 on Sunday to lead the University of Illinois Springfield women's golf team to a tie for fourth place at the Conference Preview tournament at the Anbriar Golf Course.
The Prairie Stars posted a 323 on Sunday, the fourth best score in the ten-team field, to finish with a two-day score of 656. UIS picked up 10 strokes from its score of Friday. Southern Indiana won the team title with a score of 614. The top three individuals at the tournament all came from the Screaming Eagles squad.
Ramirez came into the final round tied for 10th place and picked up three spots to finish in seventh with a score of 158 (80-78). It's her third consecutive top-ten finish this fall.
Three UIS freshmen finished in the top 25 out of 64 golfers at the Conference Preview.
Kayla Yn (Arcadia, Fla.) tied for 17th with a score of 163 (81-82).
Charlotte Ng (Hong Kong) and
Maria Espinosa (Ibague, Colombia) came in 23rd place with identical scores of 164.
Junior
Jocelyn Matsen (Springfield, Ill.) bounced back after struggling on Friday to shoot an 80 in the final round. Sophomore
Taryn Pittman (Aledo, Texas) also rebounded on Sunday, picking up six strokes from her day one score to finish with a 176.
The Prairie Stars wrap up the fall season next weekend in Puerto Rico.
