Men's Hoops Heads to St. Joseph's; No. 1 Indianapolis


SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - After picking up its first conference victory, the University of Illinois Springfield men's basketball team hopes to take its momentum out on the road to face off with East Division foe Saint Joseph's and No. 1 Indianapolis on Thursday and Saturday, respectively. Game times are set for 7:30 p.m. and 2 p.m.

SNAPPED THE SKID
UIS snapped its seven-game skid with its win against McKendree. The Stars were 5-13 last season in the GLVC and look to keep their momentum going against Saint Joseph's.

CONSISTENT-THREE
Illinois Springfield has hit at least one three-pointer in 307 straight games dating back to Feb. 21, 2004 when the Prairie Stars went 0-for-9 from long range.

FIRING FROM LONG RANGE
The Prairie Stars were able to get comfortable from behind the arc as they fired off nine triples against McKendree. JAMALL MILLISON led the way with six - the most since Kyle Gupton's six against William Jewell in 2013.

FAMILIAR FOE
Both UIS and Saint Joseph's have defeated Trevecca Nazarene of the GMAC. The Stars pulled out a 78-71 victory, while SJC won 94-82.

UP NEXT
UIS returns home for two contests as it takes on Bellarmine and Southern Indiana on Jan. 29 and 31, respectively. Bellarmine is nationally-ranked and has been in the top 10 since starting the season.

QUICK SCOUT OF THE PUMAS
Cameron Vines is the do-it-all man for the Pumas as he leads in scoring (20.4), rebounding (6.1) and assists (3.0). Nathan Tidwell is also averagin double figures with 10.7 ppg.Saint Joseph's has only won one conference contest - against Rockhurst - and is currently on a three-game losing streak.The Pumas were picked to finish right behind UIs in the GLVC coaches poll in seventh in the east.

- A pair of game-winning free throws from Brandon Snowden secured the victory last season.
- The game had nine lead changes in the second half alone and used Jamall Millison to score 14 points down the stretch.
- The Pumas held a six-point lead with four minutes to play, but Millison hit five straight points to put UIS back in the game.
- Saint Joseph's came up empty on its next possession and Snowden sunk the freebies to win.
- It was one of UIS' best outings from the floor, shooting 32-for-64.

UINDY SCOUT
The Greyhounds enter this week ranked No. 1 in Division II. Last week's win over then-No.-4 Bellarmine coupled with a loss by formerly top-ranked West Liberty helped the Hounds leapfrog two spots to No. 1, passing fellow unbeaten Lincoln Memorial in the process. Joe Lawson is the team's leading scorer with 19.7 points per game, while also grabbing 7.3 boards per contest. Brennan McElroy leads the team off the glass with 9.5 rebounds per game. As a team, UIndy is shooting 52 percent from the floor and 38 percent from long range. Four players have 20 or more triples with Dai-Jon Parker leading the way with 28. The Hounds are outscoring opponents by 24 points and grabbing 10 more rebounds per game.
