ALLENDALE, Mich. -Â Sophomore
Jocelyn Matsen (Springfield, Ill.) fired a 78 on Sunday to help the Prairie Stars tied for 15th place at the NCAA Division II National Preview at the Meadows Golf Course.
The Prairie Stars shot a 340 on the day, six strokes better than their first round (340-346-686), to put them in a tie for 15th place with Merrimack College. GLVC schools Lewis and UMSL finished in ninth and tenth place with scores of 664 and 670, respectively.
Matsen posted the only sub-80 round of the tournament for the UIS squad to finish in a tie for 29th place with a two-day score of 163. She and junior
Becca Ramirez (Springfield, Ill.) began the final day after each player shot an 85 on Saturday. Ramirez carded an 82 in the final round to finish in a tie for 40th place, four strokes back of Matsen.
Freshman
Carly Hudon (St. Charles, Ill.) posted a two-day score of 175 (86-89). Senior
Liz Kesinger (Carrollton, Ill.) and freshman
Jordan Neyens (Pleasant Hill, Iowa) rounded out the Prairie Stars' effort with final scores of 190 and 191, respectively. Neyens picked up nine strokes from her day one score.
Tournament host Grand Valley State's Kelly Hartigan claimed medalist honors while Florida Tech defeated GVSU in a playoff to capture the team title.
The Prairie Stars are back in action next weekend as they host the Dan Salisbury Memorial Invite at the Piper Glen Golf Course.
