SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The University of Illinois Springfield volleyball team went out with a 3-0 sweep against Oakland City in its home finale on Wednesday evening at The Recreation and Atheltic Center.

Shelby Geers once again led the team in kills, this time with 10 on 21 attempts and just three miscues. The Urbana, Ill., native also tallied five block assists and three digs. Junior

Kayla Katarzynski (Winfield, Ill.) recorded 14 kills and four assists, while classmate
Ashley Beaton (Wildwood, Mo.) dug up 10 balls to go along with seven kills.
In the first set, the teams traded points back and forth until the middle of the frame. Oakland City took its biggest lead, 13-10, on three straight UIS errors before UIS battled back with an 11-3 run to force the Lady Oaks to use both of their timeouts. Oakland City battled back to within two, 22-20, but UIS was able to maintain its distance and take the first set 25-21.
The Prairie Stars held a dominating 12-5 advantage before Oakland city battled back during Kaebra Pledger's service to tie the game at 13-all. A kill from Beaton but the game back in the Prairie Stars favor where it stayed for the remainder of the set.
During set three, the teams only gcame to one tie score, 6-6 before UIS jumped out in front and controlled the game. The Lady Oaks once again tried to make a comeback late in the frame with four straight points on Pledger's serves, but a kill and two errors swung momentum back in Illinois Springfield's favor for the straight set victory.
Taylor Hayne topped the team for Oakland City with a match-high 11 kills. As a team, the Lady Oaks hit just .077 with 27 kills on 104 attempts with 19 errors.
UIS now returns to conference play as it travels to Lewsi and UW-Parkside to close out the GLVC slate. The Flyers are on tap first on Friday at 7 p.m. before taking on the Rangers on Saturday at 3 p.m. During the first meetings with both teams, the opponents swept the Prairie Stars.
