SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The University of Illinois Springfield men's basketball team got things started on a high note on Wednesday, winning its home opener in convincing fashion, but the Prairie Stars now turn their attention to the road for their next three games. UIS heads to Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday before playing Lincoln U in the first of two contests against the Tigers on Monday. A short turnaround sees the Prairie Stars heading back to Lindenwood in St. Charles on Wednesday, Nov. 26.
OPPONENT SCOUTThe Trojans are 1-2 and recently competed against GLVC foe Maryville (L) and Truman (W). Byron Sanford leads all scorers with 15.7 points per game, while also leading in assists and rebounds. TNU also played Vanderbilt in an exhibition game. Vandy won 83-56.
LINCOLNAll-MIAA honorable mention seniors Joshua Buie and Mike Smith return this season. Buie led Lincoln with 86 assists and 46 steals, with the latter stat ranking third in the MIAA, and averaged 15.3 points per night. Smith led the Blue Tigers with 15.8 points per game while averaging 4.7 rebounds. LU added six newcomers on the squad, including DI transfers Blake Rallings (Mississippi Valley State) and Victor Scott (Chicago State). The Tigers are currently 1-2 and play back-to-back contests before taking one day off to face the Prairie Stars.
