Jocelyn Matsen (Rochester, Ill.) topped the field of 47 with her day one round of 77 as the University of Illinois Springfield women's golf team sits in sixth at the UIS Island Getaway on Monday.
At just five over par, Matsen had 10 pars and two birdies to sit just one stroke ahead of four other players, including three from Indianapolis who ranks sixth in the nation in women's golf. Junior
Becca Ramirez (Springfield, Ill.) sits in a tie for eighth after shooting an 80 on the day. She led the field with three birdies.
Despite Matsen's performance, UIS sits in sixth with a 346 on the day and is three strokes behind fifth place Central Missouri and seven behind GLVC foe William Jewell.
Freshman
Jordan Neyens (Pleasant Hill, Iowa) shot a 92, while senior
Liz Kesinger (Carrollton, Ill.) fired a 97.

Taryn Pittman (Aledo, Texas) shot an 86.
