Madelyn Miller-Ross Named GLVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in Women's Track & Field

Senior standout Madelyn Miller-Ross capped off an extraordinary year by being named the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women's track & field, the conference office announced Friday morning.

The honor comes after Miller-Ross earned the same recognition in women's cross country in the fall, meaning she has swept the conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards in both sports during the same academic year.

The GLVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award recognizes excellence both in competition and in the classroom. Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs) from each conference institution vote on the winners, with nominees required to maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA while also demonstrating outstanding athletic achievement.

Miller-Ross, the UIS Female Athlete of the Year, delivered record-breaking performances throughout both the indoor and outdoor track seasons.

During the indoor campaign, she rewrote the UIS record books while capturing her first GLVC track & field championship title. At the GLVC Indoor Track & Field Championships, Miller-Ross set a meet record in the 3,000 meters, crossing the finish line in 9 minutes and 41 seconds. She later earned First Team All-America honors with a sixth-place finish in the 5,000 meters at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships and received All-Region recognition in both the 3,000 and 5,000 meters.

Her success continued outdoors, where she posted the top 5,000-meter time in the Midwest Region and the sixth-fastest 10,000-meter time in the region. Miller-Ross claimed the GLVC title in the 10,000 meters, and qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships in the 5,000 meters.

During her senior year, Miller-Ross achieved All-GLVC, All-Region, and NCAA national qualifier status in cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field.

Earlier this week, she was named Academic All-GLVC and a Council of Presidents Academic Excellence award winner. She was also announced as one of three CSC Academic All-District selections from the UIS women's cross country and track & field program and advanced to the Academic All-America ballot.

The announcement caps a remarkable week of academic recognition for the Prairie Stars, who earned 306 GLVC academic honors across individual student-athletes and teams.
