Senior distance runner Madelyn Miller-Ross brought her collegiate career to a close Saturday night on collegiate track & field's biggest stage, competing in the 5,000-meter run at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Representing the University of Illinois Springfield program one final time, Miller-Ross finished 22nd nationally with a time of 17:22.10 against the top runners in NCAA DII.

The appearance marked the fifth consecutive national championship meet for Miller-Ross across the three championship sports she competed in during her career — cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field. She first reached the national stage during the 2025 indoor season where she earned All-America honors in the 5K.

Earlier this year, Miller-Ross added another milestone to her decorated career by securing First Team All-America status with a sixth-place finish in the 5,000 meters at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships.

Saturday's race closes the book on one of the most accomplished careers in program history. The East Moline, Ill., native leaves UIS as the program record holder in nearly every distance event while helping elevate the Prairie Stars distance program to new heights.

"We could not be more proud of Maddie and the career she had at UIS," said head coach Emmons King. "Watching her toe the line at her fifth consecutive national championship meet was special. She has established herself as the best female distance runner to ever attend UIS and set a clear standard for what it means to be a Prairie Star. Young women will look up to her and realize that it is possible to compete at a high level just like she did when she was a freshman. We want to congratulate Maddie on a great career, we can't wait to see what is next for you."
